Mission

Blue Ridge Literacy Council (BRLC) is dedicated to transforming lives through improved literacy and English communication skills for adult learners.

Recent BRLC Achievements

In the 2015/2016 Fiscal Year:

  • 98% of adults in the program for more than a month achieved at least one or more of their job, education, family, or life goals.
  • Over 59% of our students who were assessed twice during the year raised their literacy by one or more levels.
  • 117 BRLC volunteers tutored 188 adults in the Basic Literacy, ESL, and Citizenship programs.
  • 25 students obtained their U.S. Citizenship (141 in the life of the program).
  • 136 volunteers donated 14,665 hours for a value of $345,504.

Blue Ridge Literacy Council offers free literacy and English language skills to adult Henderson County residents without discrimination on the basis of gender, age, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, political beliefs or sexual orientation. We promote diversity within our Board of Directors, staff and volunteers as well.
