We ask everyone who is considering volunteering with us to participate in a Volunteer Orientation. There is no obligation assumed when signing up for the orientation. It's a time for asking questions and hearing more about the organization. We hold these gatherings on the second Wednesday of every month from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Please call us at 828.696.3811 to add your name to the Orientation roster.

In addition to Tutoring, there are many ways you can volunteer your time to help the Literacy Council accomplish its mission.

Office Volunteer:
Keep your office skills up-to-date by donating one morning or one afternoon per week. There is a wide variety of duties which can include everything from greeting students and tutors to website management or workshop coordination. Use your special skills to help the office run smoothly and efficiently.

Database Entry Volunteer:
Use the Literacy Council computer database to enter accurate student, tutor and volunteer records.

Tutor Trainer:
After tutoring for a year, become part of the volunteer Tutor Trainer staff to teach others how to tutor.

Committee Member:
Use you expertise to work on Literacy Council committees such as Fundraising, Community Relations or Instructional Programs.
